Texas A&M Forest Service is a public forestry agency providing district field operations, conservation programs, wildfire prevention, and emergency response.

What you will do

• Support the District Forester with field operations, including preparing tract and stand maps, collecting property and stand data, and drafting management plans.
• Interact with clients and support capacity building, conservation education, fire prevention, and special projects.
• Serve as a wildland firefighter and emergency responder on a statewide basis.
• Operate heavy firefighting equipment and hand tools, conduct ground reconnaissance, and respond to wildfire incidents.
• Manage assigned vehicles, equipment, and credit cards while keeping vehicles and equipment properly serviced.
• Maintain emergency availability and respond to dispatch notifications within 30 minutes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• No prior experience is required.
• Valid Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain one within 180 days of hire.
• Ability to meet and maintain the required physical fitness standard, including a two-mile walk in 30 minutes or less with a 25-pound pack.
• Ability to work in harsh environmental conditions, operate heavy equipment, drive long distances, lift and carry heavy objects, and work extended hours in primitive conditions.
• Good oral and written communication skills, ability to multitask and work cooperatively, and knowledge of PC-based software.

Nice to have

• Two-year technical degree in natural resources or a related field.
• Experience in a similar position with a company or agency.
• GIS/GPS experience.
• FFT-1 certification.
