Police Communications Officer

Location: Commerce, Texas, United States. This is a full-time, on-site staff position. The first five weeks include on-the-job training from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Salary: $45,000 per year.

East Texas A&M University is a public university with a University Police department serving a campus community in Northeast Texas.

What you will do

• Monitor police radio traffic and answer emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Dispatch officers, coordinate emergency services with other agencies, and issue required notifications.
• Maintain computer and handwritten logs, police records, reports, tickets, dispatch documentation, and archival files.
• Monitor campus alarms, security cameras, weather conditions, and tornado alerts.
• Support parking enforcement, vehicle towing, fleet reservations, lost-and-found records, and after-hours maintenance coordination.
• Provide professional assistance to visitors, customers, complainants, campus departments, and outside agencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least six months of experience as a police communications officer, law enforcement dispatcher, or in relevant administrative work involving calls, data entry, customer service, and information gathering.
• Communication and keyboarding skills, with the ability to multitask, work under stress, cooperate with others, and understand communications equipment.
• Successful completion of required state-mandated certification classes.
• Access to CJI systems requires a criminal history investigation. Certain felony, Class A misdemeanor, family violence, and open criminal cases disqualify applicants; Class B misdemeanor records may disqualify applicants for 10 years.
• Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume/CV, three professional references, and transcripts.
