Police Officer

Location: Commerce, Texas, United States; onsite university police position with work beyond normal office hours, including weekends and holidays.

Annual salary: $60,000.

What you will do

• Patrol campus areas by vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle to prevent crime, enforce laws, direct traffic, and enforce parking regulations.
• Respond to criminal incidents and complaints, secure crime scenes, conduct investigations, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and apprehend suspects.
• Prepare detailed police reports and forward investigative documentation to relevant departments.
• Serve warrants, transport offenders, testify in court, and assist faculty, staff, and students with safety-related needs.
• Operate firearms, vehicles, radios, cameras, and emergency equipment while maintaining required certifications and training.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent plus either 12 college credit hours or at least one year of honorable active-duty military service with documentation.
• Fluent American English, including proficient grammar and spelling, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Valid driver license and good driving record.
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) license, including the required medical and psychological declarations.
• Ability to multitask, work cooperatively, communicate with the campus population, and function under stressful or adverse conditions.
• Background investigation and psychological testing are required; certain criminal convictions, open arrests, and other specified records may disqualify applicants.

Nice to have

• Three years of experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer.
• Alternatively, 30 college credit hours or three years of honorable active-duty military service.
