Counsel, Claim - First Party Group No-Fault Practice

Location: NY - Melville, United States; hybrid work location model. Travel is required as needed to meet business needs.

Salary: $106,300–$175,400 annual base salary, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Handle a caseload of predominantly low- to moderate-complexity claim litigation through resolution and trial.
• Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
• Attend court events and other appointments independently while applying effective trial skills and techniques.
• Analyze files and recommend handling strategies to claim partners and insured clients.
• Supervise research projects delegated to associate counsel and paralegals, and use support staff, case management systems, automation, and other available technology effectively.
• Build client and business-partner relationships and provide legal advice and training.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required.
• At least one year of litigation practice or prior legal experience; three or more years of litigation experience is preferred for the role.
• Strong legal research, writing, presentation, negotiation, analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively, respond with urgency, and analyze legal issues with minimal supervision.
• A valid driver's license may be required depending on the location.

• Experience progressing toward handling high-complexity and high-exposure Major Case Unit matters.
