Associate Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote, with a commutable distance to Middletown, NY; travel required for trials, hearings, depositions, meetings, and conferences

Annual salary: $112,750–$175,275

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and handle first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions to the Claims Department on liability, damages, and claim value.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations under oath, and examinations before trial.
• Defend assigned matters at trial or dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the New York Bar required, with an active license in good standing and compliance with applicable CLE requirements.
• 2 to 6+ years of related litigation experience, including insurance defense and/or personal injury litigation.
• Ability to travel as required and document case files clearly and professionally.
• Strong organization, prioritization, multitasking, conflict-resolution, and analytical skills.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills across in-person, telephone, and written channels.
