Associate Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote within the United States; travel is required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Annual salary: $118,900–$186,550.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in Virginia courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions on liability, damages, and case value for the Claims Department.
• Prepare and manage pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations under oath, trials, and dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• 2–6+ years of related litigation experience in insurance defense or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the Virginia Bar and an active license in good standing to practice law in Virginia are required.
• Ability to meet and maintain applicable licensing and continuing legal education requirements.
• Strong legal writing, organization, prioritization, multitasking, conflict-resolution, and communication skills.
• Ability to learn and apply complex technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication experience in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
