Mechanical Engineer, RF Systems

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

Company

Develops SPARC fusion technology and the RF heating plant required to sustain fusion reactions.

What you will do

• Design RF heating plant components, including large-diameter coaxial transmission lines, stub tuners, and RF testing loads.
• Translate system requirements into mechanical specifications and own the mechanical architecture for RF heating systems.
• Develop manufacturing-ready hardware, including sheet metal components, mounting hardware, cold plates, bellows, and custom heat sinks.
• Integrate water and air cooling loops into high-power electronics enclosures and plant systems.
• Collaborate with RF, electronics, process, and other engineering disciplines, as well as the CAD drafting team.
• Perform structural loads and thermal analyses to validate mechanical designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in industrial, heavy machinery, high-power electronics, electric vehicle, or aerospace environments.
• Experience owning mechanical design architectures as a core design engineer.
• High proficiency with 3D CAD software and detailed manufacturing drawings using GD&T standards.
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, structural mechanics, and fluid dynamics.
• Ability to work on-site in Devens, Massachusetts, lift up to 50 lb, work around industrial hazards, and occasionally travel or work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

• Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Experience designing pipe routing, coaxial transmission lines, flanges, bellows, or active cooling systems.
• Experience with complex electronics assemblies and their thermal management.
• Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, machining, and contract manufacturing.
