TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer - Electronics Packaging Specialist (Mechanical Design/Electronics Packaging): Designing, integrating, and testing electronic cabinets, racks, harnesses, sheet-metal assemblies, and product-specific test tooling with an accent on manufacturability, requirements traceability, and system-level integration. Focus on developing technically complex module components, executing verification and validation, and resolving cross-functional design and integration issues for serviceable products.

Location: Wilton, Connecticut, United States; onsite presence is required, with remote work available up to two days per week

What you will do

  • Specify, design, develop, integrate, and test modules, tools, electronic enclosures, racks, cabinets, consoles, harnesses, and cable assemblies.
  • Lead technically complex module components while considering manufacturability, industrialization, cost, schedule, and cross-team impacts.
  • Manage requirements, interfaces, technical specifications, traceability, verification criteria, and configuration dependencies.
  • Plan and execute component testing, sub-module integration, module-level integration, system-level integration, and qualification activities.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, make engineering tradeoffs, resolve technical issues, and support new product introduction, sustainment, and customer-facing problem resolution.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and other disciplines while mentoring peers and maintaining technical documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; an MS or PhD is preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with mechanical design of electronic cabinets and racks, cable routing and bundling, wiring design, sheet-metal design, and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience with 3D solid modeling, preferably NX; Teamcenter DMS and SAP ERP experience are preferred.
  • Knowledge of wiring and schematic diagrams, geometric dimensioning, tolerance analysis, NEC 70, NFPA 79, and machine tool standards.
  • Must be legally authorized to access controlled technology under United States export regulations before beginning work.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of finite element analysis.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience developing assembly work instructions for low- to medium-volume products.
