Senior Backend Engineer (AdTech)

Location: Downtown Los Angeles, California, United States. Hybrid schedule with 3 days in-office; occasional early morning or evening syncs with the Tel Aviv team.

Base salary: $165,000–$185,000 USD per year. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and improve recommendation infrastructure and backend services for the Realize performance advertising platform.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices, RESTful APIs, event-driven integrations, and high-throughput data processing pipelines.
• Handle billions of events and terabytes of data daily across real-time search, recommendation, and vector-search systems.
• Own systems end to end, including architecture, implementation, measurement, monitoring, incident response, and reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with Product and Architecture teams in a Scrum environment to deliver integration projects.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers and lead root-cause analysis for production issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on Java development with the Spring Framework.
• Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL and Cassandra, plus search and serving concepts.
• Experience with big data tools such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Google BigQuery; containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, event-driven messaging, Git, and real-time search or recommendation pipelines using Vespa or similar technologies.
• Must work from the Los Angeles office three days per week and participate in production support and on-call rotations.

Nice to have

• Experience developing models, algorithms, or infrastructure for large-scale data-mining and machine-learning systems.
• Python development experience.
