Senior Backend Software Engineer (E-Commerce)

Location: Hybrid role based at hirify.global’s New York City headquarters, United States

Base salary: $173,478–$213,957 USD annually, plus equity awards, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, and region-specific benefits.

What you will do

• Lead hands-on execution of high-impact e-commerce engineering initiatives.
• Define architecture decisions for high-performance and resilient backend systems.
• Build and launch software for web, retail, and emerging sales channels.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to scope and deliver features.
• Own features from concept through production while maintaining stakeholder alignment.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software development experience with strong expertise in Java, Kotlin, or Python.
• Experience designing and scaling RESTful microservices and GraphQL APIs.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, Amazon SQS, AWS or GCP, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot, Docker, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, automated testing, and observability tools such as DataDog.
• Experience navigating cross-functional collaboration and delivering features iteratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with e-commerce platforms, DevOps or CI/CD pipelines, React, or Next.js.
• Familiarity with AI tooling in modern software engineering workflows.
