Forward Deployed Engineer – Senior Java (AI)

What you will do

• Work hands-on with complex existing Java applications and enterprise codebases.
• Analyze and reverse-engineer architectures, dependencies, business logic, and technical constraints.
• Use AI-assisted development tools for code generation, analysis, refactoring, testing, and documentation.
• Modernize Java applications by replacing legacy dependencies and outdated components.
• Generate automated tests and collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders on maintainable technical solutions.
• Help establish repeatable AI-assisted development practices across engineering teams.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience developing, maintaining, refactoring, and modernizing enterprise Java applications.
• At least 3 months of team-project experience using Cursor as the primary AI code-generation tool, or at least 6 months using comparable AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or Antigravity.
• Practical experience with structured AI development workflows, reverse engineering, Spec-Driven Development, and AI-assisted test generation.
• Experience removing or replacing legacy dependencies and navigating unfamiliar, complex codebases.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, automated testing, version control, and collaborative development.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with technical teams and stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of legacy Microsoft IE5 HTCs and DHTML architectures.
• Experience with Oracle Database schema upgrades, stored procedures, or Oracle JDK 8.
• Previous consulting experience.
