Senior Product Counsel (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid in New York, NY or Austin, TX; must be based in Austin or New York.

Base salary: $170,000–$220,000 per year, plus bonus.

What you will do

• Advise product and engineering teams from initial design through launch and ongoing iteration.
• Provide legal guidance on generative AI, online safety, content acquisition, intellectual property, open source, privacy, and product risk.
• Partner with Legal, Privacy, AI/ML, Compliance, Information Security, Product, Design, and Trust & Safety stakeholders.
• Implement scalable legal processes, automation, AI-enabled solutions, playbooks, and checklists.
• Support compliance with global privacy, data protection, online safety, and consumer protection frameworks.
• Coordinate legal input across disciplines, support Trust & Safety escalations, and contribute to transparency reports.

Requirements

• J.D. degree and active U.S. bar membership in good standing.
• At least 5 years of relevant legal experience, including in-house experience at a U.S.-based global technology company or experience at a top-tier law firm advising high-growth technology businesses.
• Experience advising product teams on privacy law, platform liability, consumer protection, and global data protection requirements.
• Working knowledge of GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, online safety laws, the Digital Services Act, and the Online Safety Act.
• Experience coordinating cross-functional legal and regulatory work, influencing without authority, and managing complex projects.
• Must be based in Austin or New York.

• Experience with privacy-by-design, safety-by-design, UX, system architecture, and responsible product development.
• Experience creating efficient legal processes and supporting innovation at scale.
