Senior Systems Engineer - Research and Innovation (Defence)

Location: Melbourne or Adelaide, Australia. Hybrid work arrangements and a 9-day fortnight may be considered.

What you will do

• Lead systems engineering activities across Defence R&D programs, rapid prototypes, and concept demonstrators.
• Manage the systems lifecycle from requirements definition and design through integration, verification, and validation.
• Engage stakeholders to align technical solutions with capability objectives and future product evolution.
• Coordinate technical governance, configuration management, and design reviews.
• Lead installation, testing, and sustainment activities while providing technical leadership and subject matter expertise.

Requirements

• Experience applying systems engineering principles across multiple lifecycle stages.
• Experience solving complex technical challenges in Defence, aerospace, or other complex technology environments.
• Experience with R&D, innovation programs, prototypes, or technology demonstrators.
• Experience applying systems engineering practices to software-intensive or complex integrated systems.
• Familiarity with MBSE, systems architecture development, digital engineering, and Defence capability environments.
• Must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain Australian Defence Security Clearance NV1 and access to ITAR-controlled information.
