Database Platform Engineer

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid with office attendance 2–3 days per week. Working from abroad is available for up to 120 days per year, subject to having the right to work in the country of choice.

What you will do

• Support mission-critical PostgreSQL and AWS database services.
• Automate database operations using infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines.
• Improve backup, restore, monitoring, and replication practices.
• Partner with Cloud Infrastructure engineers on AWS, Terraform, and platform patterns.
• Enable engineers to self-serve database capabilities safely through clear guardrails.
• Contribute to the migration from Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL and participate in the shared on-call rota.

Requirements

• Practical AWS experience supporting production database services.
• Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including backup and restore.
• Experience with Terraform, CI/CD, and database automation.
• Experience participating in on-call support for production services.
• Ability to reason about reliability, resilience, security, and operability.
• Collaborative experience working with platform and cloud infrastructure engineers.

Nice to have

• AWS certification.
• Experience with MySQL or SQL Server instances.
• PostgreSQL replication and database automation experience.
• Experience with Redgate Monitor, Honeycomb, or comparable monitoring tools.
• Pragmatic use of AI in engineering work.
