Platform Engineer (Python/AWS)

Location: London, UK; at least four days per week onsite at the Kings Cross offices, plus one flexible work-from-home day

What you will do

• Design architecture connecting research data, compute, pipelines, evaluation, and reproducibility standards.
• Enable efficient reprocessing of historical analyses when pipeline stages or parameters change.
• Build reusable comparison and simulation harnesses that scientists and analysis agents can run without bespoke engineering support.
• Improve reproducible environments, cloud resource provisioning, dataset discovery, testing, CI, and repository structure.
• Strengthen the research-to-software interface and generate IEC 62304 traceability artefacts from CI.
• Mentor junior developers and help define the growing platform engineering function.

Requirements

• Substantial software or platform engineering experience building tooling for scientists, researchers, or quants.
• Deep Python experience and experience with pipeline or workflow systems where correctness and reproducibility are important.
• Experience with cloud compute and storage, preferably AWS, containerisation, infrastructure as code, and cost-aware provisioning.
• Ability to understand scientific analyses, abstract them correctly, and challenge flawed evaluation approaches.
• Experience raising engineering standards without formal authority and defining a new function in a small team.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated environments such as medical devices, diagnostics, pharma, or aerospace, particularly IEC 62304 or software as a medical device.
• Experience with time-series or signal-processing workloads, physiological data, or scientific instrumentation.
• Experiment tracking, model registries, or MLOps tooling focused on research reproducibility.
• Behaviour-driven testing, specification by example, or agent-assisted workflows for technical teams.
• Experience as the first platform hire in a science organisation.
