Engineering Manager (Application Security)

Location: Remote; candidates are considered in the UK, Spain, and Ireland

Base compensation in the UK: £103,958–£124,750 per year, plus RSUs.

What you will do

• Lead the application security engineering team across application security, cloud security, and internal tooling.
• Manage first- and third-party vulnerability programs, coordinated disclosure, and embargoed fixes.
• Define and implement engineering strategy with security leadership, individual contributors, and business stakeholders.
• Coach and mentor engineers through regular one-to-ones, feedback, and development support.
• Influence product strategy, roadmaps, technical designs, and project decomposition with engineering leaders.
• Prepare for and respond to significant incidents, including simulations, affected-customer communications, and design reviews.

Requirements

• Experience running a security engineering team.
• Strong engineering background with the ability to participate in technical discussions and challenge security and architectural decisions.
• Experience working with autonomous engineering teams and a security-by-enablement approach based on automation and guardrails.
• Familiarity with securing and operating AWS, GCP, or Azure environments, Kubernetes, and combined open-source and SaaS products.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining cybersecurity concepts and business impact to technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

• Programming or software engineering experience before moving into security and leadership.
• Knowledge of hirify.global open-source projects and products or experience using observability tooling for security.
• Experience working with open-source communities.
• Experience securing large-scale distributed systems.
