Senior Director, Software Engineering - AI Shopping & Content Experiences (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at the Crossman Service Building

Annual salary: $208,000–$416,000, plus performance bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Define and execute the multi-year technical roadmap for AI-driven rich-media content experiences across Walmart’s digital platforms and global operating regions.
• Lead development and global scaling of media players, interactive video, 360-degree product experiences, content delivery pipelines, virtual try-on, and spatial/XR shopping capabilities.
• Own content generation and intelligence platforms, including generative AI creation, metadata enhancement, content understanding, model evaluation, and brand safety systems.
• Architect resilient, high-performance full-stack and distributed platforms with strong operational reliability at Walmart scale.
• Partner with product, business, design, data, and AI research teams to productionize advanced models and translate enterprise priorities into unified technology solutions.
• Lead a global multi-pillar engineering organization, developing senior leaders, succession plans, talent, and cross-functional alignment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 15 years of experience in software engineering, platform development, or AI-driven systems, with substantial experience leading managers and large engineering organizations.
• At least 4 years of supervisory experience; the role requires a proven record of leading large-scale engineering organizations and consumer-facing platforms.
• Deep expertise in frontend and full-stack engineering, distributed systems, and platform architecture.
• Strong working knowledge of generative AI, computer vision, content understanding, media systems, and content pipelines.
• Experience leading global, cross-functional organizations and delivering products in ecommerce, media, rich media, XR, interactive video, or related domains.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI-powered shopping or content platforms.
• Experience with virtual try-on, augmented reality, 3D, or immersive retail technologies.
• Experience creating generative AI media and integrating AI/ML solutions into production at scale.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
