Specialist, Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms)

Location: On-site in Carlsbad, California; Palm Bay, Florida; or Chantilly, Virginia. The role includes direct laboratory, prototype integration, and hardware-test activity.

Salary: $88,500–$164,500 annually in California and Virginia.

What you will do

• Lead mechanical design, analysis, prototype integration, and qualification testing for precision mechanisms and electromechanical hardware.
• Develop 3D models, engineering drawings, technical data packages, and assembly documentation.
• Evaluate materials and design trades while optimizing performance, size, weight, power, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Plan and execute component- and system-level tests, analyze results, and drive design improvements.
• Present designs and test results during peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and customer reviews.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, technicians, configuration management, and program test teams to transition designs into production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree and at least 2 years of related experience.
• Eight years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
• Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance required; clearance active within the last two years may be considered.
• U.S. citizenship is required for security-clearance eligibility.
• Experience with hands-on design, development, integration, and testing of complex mechanical hardware.
• Experience with 3D mechanical CAD, engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, and GD&T; Creo and ASME Y14.5 knowledge are preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with precision mechanisms, mechatronic systems, or packaging electronics under thermal and structural loads.
• Experience with additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacture and assembly.
• Experience with actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, or manufacturing processes.
• Favorable polygraph.
