TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Hardware) (Networking Hardware/CAD): Supporting the mechanical design, development, testing, and qualification of networking systems, chassis, line cards, and related hardware with an accent on 3D CAD, GD&T, structural analysis, manufacturing, and thermal design. Location: Hybrid, with an average requirement of 2 days per week from an HPE office; salary information is specified for the United States and California.

Salary: USD 71,700–145,300 annual base salary in California; variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

  • Support the mechanical design and development of networking systems, chassis, line cards, and related hardware from concept through production.
  • Create and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, specifications, test plans, BOMs, and engineering change documentation.
  • Participate in prototype builds, laboratory testing, design verification, product qualification, and production troubleshooting.
  • Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials selection, structural mechanics, heat transfer, and FEA.
  • Integrate PCBs, connectors, cables, optical modules, fans, heatsinks, and other components into mechanical assemblies.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, operations, supply chain, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to resolve technical and manufacturability issues.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, with recent graduation or up to 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of 3D solid modeling tools and engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up principles.
  • Understanding of statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, heat transfer, structural analysis, and FEA fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, machining, injection molding, die casting, extrusion, and 3D printing.
  • Ability and willingness to work hands-on in a laboratory and participate in prototype and product builds.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement, averaging 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Nice to have

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, Creo, ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Experience in structural analysis, FEA, vibration, mechanical reliability, electronics packaging, or thermal and liquid cooling.
  • Internship, co-op, academic project, research, prototyping, laboratory testing, machining, or 3D printing experience.
