TL;DR
Specialist, Thermal Engineer (CFD/Thermal Analysis): Developing and integrating high-consequence electromechanical hardware for U.S. Government missions with an accent on thermal management, conjugate heat transfer simulations, and electronics packaging in military environments. Focus on predicting system and component-level thermal responses, designing for temperature, vibration, and shock requirements, and supporting hardware integration and qualification testing.

Location: On-site in Palm Bay, Florida, Chantilly, Virginia, or Carlsbad, California

Company

Develops defense technology and mission-critical systems spanning space, air, land, sea, and cyber domains for U.S. Government customers.

What you will do

  • Perform thermal analysis for custom electromechanical hardware from concept development through integration and testing.
  • Use thermodynamics and fluid mechanics principles to analyze conduction, convection, heating, and cooling systems.
  • Run conjugate heat transfer and computational fluid dynamics simulations to predict component- and system-level thermal responses.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, procurement, and other engineering disciplines to develop and document design solutions.
  • Support program milestones including PDR, CDR, and TRR, while reporting progress, risks, schedule, cost, and technical status.
  • Review the work of new graduate engineers, designers, and technicians and support onboarding and university outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience, graduate degree with at least 2 years of related experience, or 8 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with first-order thermal analysis, including conduction and convection.
  • Experience with CFD software; FloEFD is preferred, while Ansys, Icepak, StarCCM, OpenFOAM, and Flotherm are acceptable.
  • Experience in thermal analysis for electronics packaging and testing for military environments, including temperature, vibration, and shock.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools such as PTC Creo, Catia, NX, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks, plus strong hands-on integration skills.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Nice to have

  • Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance, including a clearance active within the past two years.
  • Active polygraph.
  • Experience presenting technical concepts to program leadership.
  • Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary engineering environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a lab and hardware-development environment supporting next-generation defense technologies.
  • 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.
  • Opportunities to support onboarding, career fairs, and university outreach.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on professional growth, community commitment, and work-life success.
