TL;DR
Lead Electrical Engineer (Power Hardware) (Aerospace/Spacecraft Power): Designing and developing space-qualified power hardware and spacecraft electrical power subsystems with an accent on power architectures, circuit analysis, power conversion, radiation effects, and hardware verification. Focus on developing isolated and non-isolated converters, analyzing control-loop stability and thermal performance, troubleshooting hardware across system levels, and mentoring power engineers.

What you will do

  • Lead the design and development of space-qualified power hardware and spacecraft electrical power subsystems.
  • Support the full hardware lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture definition, schematic capture, simulation, manufacturing, integration, and verification.
  • Design and analyze AC/DC and DC/DC converters, battery chargers, and power management and distribution circuits.
  • Perform circuit analysis covering voltage regulation, ripple, custom magnetics, radiation effects, efficiency, thermal performance, control-loop stability, EMI/EMC, and transient response.
  • Troubleshoot hardware from component and board level through payload and system level using laboratory instruments.
  • Mentor power engineers and collaborate with program leadership, manufacturing, systems engineering, and other technical teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 9 years of relevant experience, or a graduate degree with at least 7 years of related experience, in electrical engineering or another relevant STEM field.
  • Experience interpreting high-level requirements and developing power architectures for spacecraft systems.
  • Strong electronic power design experience, including power devices, control-loop theory, thermal management, custom magnetics, printed wiring board layout, and EMI filtering.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft power subsystems, including orbital average power, energy balance, solar arrays, batteries, charging systems, regulation, distribution, and power quality.
  • The role is on-site in Palm Bay, Florida.
  • Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens; clearance eligibility may be required.

Nice to have

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance and experience supporting space, aerospace, defense, medical, or other mission-critical hardware.
  • Experience with proposals, trade studies, mission definition, component selection, integration, testing, manufacturing, and production programs.
  • Experience with RCCA, Failure Review Boards, supplier technical oversight, and presenting technical material to customers and leadership.
  • Experience with LTSpice, PSpice, Cadence, Siemens Xpedition, Mathcad, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Experience integrating firmware or software with hardware in laboratory and system environments.
