Technical Director, Accounting (Insurance)

Location: Columbus, Ohio, at One hirify.global Plaza; must reside within 35 miles of the office. Hybrid schedule with 2 days in the office and 3 days remote.

Salary: $122,000–$214,000 annual national range; expected starting range of $122,000–$182,000.

What you will do

• Direct accounting, financial statement preparation, analysis, reporting, and required filings.
• Research and resolve complex technical accounting matters and develop well-supported conclusions.
• Build and maintain accounting policies, practices, and standards for product and business units.
• Advise on accounting policies, systems developments, controls, processes, and financial data accuracy.
• Lead special projects and provide accounting consultation to leadership and internal stakeholders.
• Respond to inquiries from state insurance departments, auditors, and other regulatory agencies.

Requirements

• Undergraduate studies in accounting or finance; postgraduate studies are desirable.
• Ten years of accounting experience in the insurance or financial services industry.
• Knowledge of GAAP and/or STAT accounting, tax and systems principles, insurance accounting, and regulatory requirements.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including communication with executives, auditors, public accountants, and state examiners.
• Ability to analyze accounting problems, financial data, legal requirements, accounting cycles, general ledger entries, and audit work papers.
• Progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
