Staff Technical Category Manager – Plastics (Technical CBM)

What you will do

• Own the China plastics commodity strategy across injection-molded, extruded, and thermoformed components, engineering resins, and tooling.
• Source, qualify, audit, and manage molding, tooling, and resin-compounding suppliers.
• Lead RFI/RFQ processes, should-cost analysis, supplier negotiations, pricing mechanisms, and total landed-cost evaluations.
• Manage the full tooling lifecycle, including mold ownership, asset tracking, transfers, tryouts, maintenance, and end-of-life disposition.
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and R&D on DFM/DFA, mold-flow analysis, process validation, PPAP/FAI, and engineering changes.
• Drive supplier performance, corrective actions, dual sourcing, capacity validation, and supply-continuity risk reduction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of strategic sourcing or supplier/category management experience focused significantly on plastics or injection molding.
• Hands-on knowledge of injection molding, extrusion, mold design and construction, engineering thermoplastics, and resins such as PC, ABS, POM, PP, PEEK, LCP, and TPE.
• Experience with mold tooling assets, multi-cavity tool qualification, PPAP/FAI, Cpk, mold-flow simulation, and 8D or other corrective-action methods.
• Fluent Mandarin and English are required for direct technical work with China-based molders and tooling shops.
• Willingness to travel within China and occasionally internationally for supplier audits and relationship management.

Nice to have

• Experience in life sciences, medical devices, diagnostics, or regulated-product plastics sourcing.
• SAP knowledge.
• Experience preparing management presentations and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
