TL;DR
Senior Telecom Engineer (Government) (Telecommunications): Designing, installing, operating, and maintaining enterprise voice and data telecommunications networks for federal government locations with an accent on cable infrastructure, service changes, equipment rooms, and incident resolution. Focus on diagnosing transmission defects, upgrading end-of-life systems, coordinating multi-site support, and maintaining secure government network services.

Location: Washington, DC; onsite at the customer's site at least 5 days per week. Support for multiple sites in the immediate area and domestic Department of State locations may be required.

Salary: $89,200–$110,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, operate, maintain, coordinate, and support enterprise telecommunications networks for voice and data services.
  • Install and upgrade telephone, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling, phones, and telecommunications systems.
  • Fulfill service requests involving voice and data moves, adds, changes, and disconnects.
  • Manage and maintain computer equipment rooms across the National Capital Area Region.
  • Respond to incidents, diagnose signal transmission defects, and resolve service issues.
  • Process configuration updates, financial transactions, procurement, quality management, and business process improvements.

Requirements

  • Secret security clearance required.
  • At least 7 years of experience overseeing and installing telephone, coaxial, and fiber optic cables, including vertical and horizontal cable pairs to the desktop.
  • At least 7 years of experience locating and diagnosing signal transmission defects using test equipment and visual inspection.
  • At least 7 years of experience using tools, test equipment, ground power equipment, and pressure equipment.
  • Willingness to work onsite in Washington, DC and support multiple nearby locations.
  • High school diploma required; an associate or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.

  • BICSI Installer 1 certification.
  • BICSI Installer 2, Copper certification.
  • BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber certification.
  • BICSI Technician certification or equivalent experience or certifications.
