Staff Engineer - Cryogenics

Location: Onsite at the Boston, Massachusetts office. Travel: 10% domestic and international.

Base salary: $152,000–$190,000 USD per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and mature cryogenic subsystems for diamond-based photonic interconnects and SiV quantum memory nodes.
• Customize commercially available cryostats for quantum memory applications.
• Work with vendors to design and configure deployable cryogenic systems.
• Collaborate with internal teams to improve existing cryogenic platforms.
• Provide operational support for the current fleet of cryostats.
• Convert R&D-scale subsystems and processes into robust, maintainable systems for hirify.global and customer sites.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in physics, applied physics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field.
• 7+ years of experience in the cryogenics industry.
• Experience designing and evaluating complex cryogenic systems.
• Experience operating and maintaining dilution, sorption, and 1K cryostats.
• Experience with cryogenic wiring, sensors, heaters, and UHV systems, including pumping, leak detection, sealing, and joining techniques.
• Experience with CAD systems and manufacturing.

Nice to have

• PhD in physics, applied physics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field.
• 10+ years of experience in the cryogenics industry.
• Experience managing complex production lines or customer projects.
• Experience with free-space or fiber optics.
• Experience integrating superconducting magnets.
