Lead Software Engineer (AI-Driven Development)

Location: Buffalo, New York, United States. Hybrid schedule with four days onsite at Seneca One Buffalo and one day working from home per week.

Salary: $116,400–$194,000 annual USD.

What you will do

• Lead the adoption of approved AI coding assistants and agentic workflows across the full software development lifecycle.
• Define standards for AI-assisted coding, human review, provenance, data handling, security, and auditability.
• Author and maintain version-controlled repository instructions, reusable prompts, skills, agent definitions, and MCP server configurations.
• Review designs, pull requests, source-control changes, testing approaches, and production deployment readiness.
• Develop secure, efficient, resilient software while coaching engineers on coding, architecture, testing, and code review.
• Measure improvements from AI-assisted refactoring, dependency upgrades, test generation, documentation, and incident analysis.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree with at least 7 years of systems analysis or application development experience, bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years, or an equivalent combination including at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Expert proficiency in at least one relevant programming language and professional proficiency in at least one additional language.
• Hands-on production experience using AI coding assistants and the judgment to accept, correct, or reject generated output.
• Experience with secure coding, test automation, performance, resiliency, optimization, and software development lifecycle practices.
• Ability to work four days onsite in Buffalo, New York, with one remote day per week.
• Ability to communicate architecture, progress, risks, and AI usage clearly to technical and business stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience leading AI-assisted development adoption, including standards, guardrails, and enablement.
• Experience with agentic tooling, MCP integrations, prompt and context engineering, or model-output evaluation.
• Familiarity with AI governance in regulated industries, including data classification, model risk, third-party review, and audit evidence.
• Experience leading projects, managing milestones, and partnering with multiple technology and business stakeholders.
