Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: New York, NY; hybrid work required with 2 days onsite and 3 days remote each week

Salary: $136,800–$205,200 per year; geographic pay structures may apply, including $130,880–$196,320 and $136,800–$205,200.

What you will do

• Develop technical strategies and reference architectures for high-uncertainty technology questions and new classes of systems.
• Design AI systems for regulated environments, including agentic workflows, APIs, authorization, data access, fraud controls, auditability, and failure-mode management.
• Scope and build proofs of concept against real enterprise systems and vendor platforms, then hand them off or retire them based on defined success measures.
• Lead evaluation of non-deterministic AI systems using test sets, assertion-based scoring, model-graded evaluation, human calibration, and production monitoring.
• Evaluate third-party platforms and make evidence-based build, buy, or partner recommendations.
• Align architecture, risk, fraud, information security, legal, product, and operations stakeholders, and present recommendations to senior leadership.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including work in a large, regulated organization.
• Expertise in systems and integration architecture, including APIs, identity and authorization, systems of record, integration patterns, and vendor platforms.
• Production experience with large language model APIs, tool use, structured outputs, retrieval, multi-step agents, and AI failure modes.
• Production experience with Python and TypeScript, plus cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, managed model services, and enterprise security controls.
• Experience with AWS, Terraform, third-party platforms and SDKs, and least-privilege tool interfaces such as MCP servers or equivalents.
• Strong technical writing and stakeholder alignment skills, including the ability to produce concise recommendations for senior leadership.

Nice to have

• Insurance, wealth management, or financial planning domain knowledge.
• Experience with AI governance, model risk management, continuous monitoring, drift detection, and auditor or regulator documentation.
• Experience taking proofs of concept into production pilots, including readiness, controls, and handoff work.
• Background in architecture, strategy, platform functions, business-process automation, or institutional knowledge codification.
• Experience identifying unassigned opportunities, building the business case, and delivering a working result.
