Cryophysicist (Cryogenics)

Location: Denver, Colorado; full-time onsite at the headquarters. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, current U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as refugees or asylees.

Salary: $140,000–$165,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, build, and iterate experiments for target-filling processes and rapid target throughput.
• Evaluate and improve physical system designs for the Fill and Injection Station.
• Model thermal transport, fluid flow, and materials interactions using COMSOL Multiphysics and Python.
• Manage internal cryogenic test stands, experiments, models, simulations, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, designers, national laboratories, and universities.
• Support rapid prototyping and knowledge transfer between Xcimer and external collaborators.

Requirements

• Master’s degree with 3 years of experience or a PhD in applied physics, engineering physics, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, vacuum engineering, or a related field.
• 0–3+ years of experience in cryophysics, thermodynamics, superconducting magnetics, or a similar field.
• Experience with ultra-low-temperature engineering, thermal transport, mechanical compatibility, liquefaction, and both wet and dry cryogenic systems.
• Hands-on laboratory experience with ultra-low-temperature installations and experience building thermal, fluid-flow, and materials models.
• Experience with multidisciplinary system design and integration teams, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States as a citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with PyVISA, SCPI commands, instrumentation controls, and scripting.
• Experience with Agile project lifecycle management, vendor interactions, supply management, or cryogenics safety training.
• Startup experience, mentoring experience, or experience developing low-TRL products on R&D teams.
