What you will do

• Design and execute synthesis campaigns for novel functional inorganic materials across diverse chemical systems and structure families.
• Select and apply melt, flux, vapor transport, soft-chemical, topochemical, single-crystal, high-pressure, and other preparative methods.
• Translate phase-diagram, crystal-chemistry, and structure-property reasoning into prioritized synthesis pathways.
• Develop structural characterization workflows using powder XRD, phase identification, quantitative analysis, and refinement.
• Screen magnetic, transport, optical, and related functional properties and use the results to refine synthesis strategies.
• Integrate synthesis outputs with characterization, simulation, ML research, and systems engineering for closed-loop AI-guided experiments.

Requirements

• PhD in solid-state chemistry, inorganic chemistry, materials science, or a related field, plus 1–5 years of postdoctoral or industry experience.
• Documented work on novel inorganic compounds spanning multiple chemical systems.
• Hands-on proficiency with multiple inorganic synthesis modalities and functional-property-driven materials campaigns.
• Strong command of complex multicomponent and multidimensional phase diagrams and structural chemistry.
• Deep proficiency in X-ray diffraction and scattering, including quantitative phase analysis and Rietveld refinement.
• Experience with multimodal characterization and effective cross-functional written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with single-crystal growth, metallic flux, vapor transport, Bridgman, or floating-zone methods.
• Metallurgical processing experience, including sintering, hot pressing, spark plasma sintering, arc melting, or controlled annealing.
• Experience with neutron scattering, pair distribution function analysis, or other local-structure techniques.
• Experience with glovebox or Schlenk techniques, air- and moisture-sensitive chemistry, high-pressure preparation, thin-film deposition, or vacuum processing.
• Proficiency in Python, workflow automation, or automated and high-throughput laboratory environments.
