Product Engineer, NPI (PCBA Manufacturing)

Location: Santa Clara, California; primarily in-office at the Santa Clara office

Annual base salary: $170,000–$255,000 USD, with potential incentive pay and/or equity.

What you will do

• Direct PCB material selection, multilayer stack-up design, fabrication requirements, impedance control, and signal-integrity optimization.
• Define, optimize, and qualify SMT and mixed-technology assembly processes, including solder paste printing, component placement, reflow, and selective soldering.
• Deploy and calibrate SPI, AOI, X-ray, ICT, and functional-test strategies to improve defect screening, testability, and root-cause isolation.
• Lead Gerber, fabrication drawing, assembly, test-interface, and BOM reviews in PLM tools to support NPI transitions into high-volume manufacturing.
• Partner with hardware, mechanical, and test engineering teams and global contract manufacturers to qualify suppliers, lead pilot builds, and improve production yield.

Requirements

• Expertise in PCB materials, dielectric properties, laminate systems, high-layer-count stack-ups, controlled impedance, and transmission-line behavior.
• Deep knowledge of SMT assembly, solder paste printing, reflow optimization, pick-and-place tuning, selective soldering, and IPC standards.
• Experience reviewing Gerber files, drill data, CAM tools, and manufacturing drawings for DFM, DFA, and DFT improvements.
• Hands-on proficiency with SPI, AOI, X-ray, ICT, test-point strategies, statistical process control, and data-driven yield improvement.
• Proven experience collaborating with hardware and test teams and global contract manufacturers on pilot builds, supplier qualification, and production issues.
• Ability to work primarily from the Santa Clara office in accordance with company policy.
