Field Service Engineer (Semiconductor Laser Systems)

Location: Kumagaya, Japan; actual work location may be Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan. On-site customer support, approximately 25% travel, occasional international business travel, and flexible hours may be required.

What you will do

• Install, maintain, repair, and qualify semiconductor laser systems at customer sites.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance according to established procedures.
• Troubleshoot system issues, identify root causes, and minimize equipment downtime.
• Support equipment upgrades, modifications, and system qualifications.
• Maintain service records and technical reports while providing customer training and technical support.
• Collaborate with engineering, logistics, and technical support teams while participating in on-call service.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, electronics, mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• Technical ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, optical, and software-related systems.
• Ability to read technical documentation and schematics and use Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and customer-facing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, willingness to travel, and a valid driver’s license.
• Business-level Japanese and basic English communication skills are preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with semiconductor equipment, industrial equipment, laser systems, or field service.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, optical, or software systems.
• Recent graduates with strong technical backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
