TL;DR
Patient Access Specialist - Part Time Evenings (Healthcare): Supporting patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and financial account inquiries with an accent on accurate data collection, HIPAA confidentiality, and customer service. Focus on coordinating referrals and consultations, resolving scheduling and insurance issues, maintaining complete patient records in Epic, and improving registration workflows.

Location: 251 E. Huron, Chicago, IL, United States. Part-time evening schedule: 3 days per week, 11:00 AM–7:30 PM.

Salary: $18.40–$27.60 per hour.

What you will do

  • Provide patient-focused customer service, answer questions, resolve service issues, and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Collect and verify patient demographic information, maintain confidentiality under HIPAA, and prevent duplicate or incomplete records.
  • Schedule appointments, coordinate patients with hospital departments and physician offices, and communicate referral and consultation information.
  • Perform medical necessity checks, verify insurance eligibility and benefits, collect authorization numbers, and explain financial account or out-of-pocket estimate issues.
  • Document accurate handoffs, notes, messages, and telephone encounters in Epic and other online systems.
  • Participate in quality assurance, cross-training, process improvement, and registration and scheduling activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–3 years of customer service or medical office experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Computer data-entry skills, basic computer proficiency, and typing speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, organizational, time-management, analytical, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer-service orientation and ability to work effectively with patients, physicians' offices, hospital departments, and coworkers.

Nice to have

  • Additional education or language skills.
  • Healthcare finance or healthcare insurance experience.
  • Experience with patient scheduling, registration, or other healthcare operations.
