Sr Principal Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States; most teams work from the office full time.

Salary: $183,600–$297,000 per year, plus potential restricted stock units and bonus.

What you will do

• Develop, innovate, and scale the backend of the unified vulnerability and exposure management module in XSIAM.
• Design and optimize scalable data models and queries using MySQL, Spanner, and BigQuery.
• Build business logic, REST API endpoints, and high-performance backend services with Python, FastAPI, and Go.
• Lead projects from requirements gathering through design and implementation, identifying and mitigating technical risks.
• Align product work with product management, UX, and engineering stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 14+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on distributed, cloud-native application development.
• Expert programming skills in Python, Go, or Java, with experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Extensive experience with cloud development, REST APIs, databases, serverless computing, and microservices architectures.
• Hands-on experience as a technical lead or architect on complex software projects.
• Deep understanding of public cloud design, security, global network infrastructure, and load balancing.

Nice to have

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with BigQuery, Google Pub/Sub, or similar cloud technologies.
