Principal Software Engineer (Semantic Web)

Location: Herndon, Virginia, United States. Must be a U.S. citizen with an active TS/SCI clearance and CI polygraph. The role is subject to U.S. export control and ITAR requirements.

Salary: $165,000–$220,000–$242,000 annually in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise applications supporting Object-Based Intelligence missions.
• Build scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, user interfaces, and distributed applications integrated with ontologies, knowledge graphs, semantic databases, and enterprise data platforms.
• Implement Semantic Web solutions using RDF, OWL, and SPARQL for semantic search, data integration, and knowledge discovery.
• Develop secure containerized applications and integrate relational databases, graph databases, messaging systems, and enterprise APIs.
• Support Agile DevSecOps delivery through design reviews, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Mentor junior developers, document technical solutions, and collaborate with engineers, analysts, and Government stakeholders.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph are required.
• 10 years of experience with an advanced degree, or 15 years of experience with a bachelor's degree.
• Professional experience with Java, Python, C#, or comparable object-oriented programming languages.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed applications, and relational or graph databases.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift, Agile development, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and Git.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Object-Based Intelligence, Intelligence Community, or Department of Defense mission systems.
• Experience with enterprise ontologies, knowledge graphs, RDF, OWL, SPARQL, AI/ML services, LLMs, or advanced analytics.
• Cloud-native development with AWS, Azure, or Red Hat OpenShift.
• Government cybersecurity, RMF, relevant technical certifications, or technical leadership experience.
