Principal Software Engineer (AI Integrations)

Location: United States; remote workplace. Successful finalists must attend an on-site interview.

Base compensation: USD 190,000–260,000 per year, plus potential bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Own one or more integration domains from roadmap definition and architecture decisions through delivery.
• Architect and deliver microservice-based integrations using REST, GraphQL, streaming APIs, MCP, and LLM-powered automation.
• Define system boundaries, API contracts, reliability targets, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing sessions, and code reviews.
• Use AI coding assistants, AI-driven testing, automated code review, and scripting to improve engineering workflows.
• Set technical direction and maintain engineering rigor across secure coding, documentation, quality, and distributed systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of backend software development experience, including 3+ years in a Staff-level or technical leadership role.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java and experience building and operating production microservices.
• Deep experience with API design and integrations, including REST, GraphQL, streaming, LLM APIs, embedding services, OAuth, API keys, and rate limiting.
• Strong background in distributed systems, message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, or orchestration frameworks such as Celery or Airflow.
• Experience using AI tools in production engineering workflows, plus strong system design, debugging, communication, and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Cybersecurity experience with SOAR, EDR, SIEM, XDR, or similar domains.
• Experience with large-scale data processing, real-time pipelines, or event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, or Helm.
• Experience with MCP, function calling, agent orchestration, or systems incorporating LLMs and AI services.
