Senior Software Engineer, Legal Tech

Location: Remote-friendly with required travel and at least 25% office attendance in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City.

Annual salary: $320,000–$485,000 USD

What you will do

• Build and operate dedicated cloud infrastructure, storage, and data pipelines for specialized legal workloads.
• Design secure, private, reliable, scalable, and auditable architectures.
• Translate requirements from Legal, Privacy, Security, Research, and Infrastructure stakeholders into practical technical solutions and delivery plans.
• Support complex legal requests on controlled infrastructure with verifiable chain of custody.
• Extend existing infrastructure to support new workflows and legal requests.
• Explain technical concepts and constraints clearly to nontechnical stakeholders while delivering against fixed deadlines.

Requirements

• Experience designing, building, and operating highly trusted production infrastructure and data systems.
• Experience making architectural decisions across large, complex, multi-team environments, including code and systems not directly owned.
• Ability to secure AWS and/or GCP cloud accounts end to end, including networking, storage, identity, encryption, and least-privilege access.
• Ability to translate legal and privacy requirements into adoptable technical designs and implementations.
• Strong verification, invariant-checking, ownership, prioritization, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Software engineering experience focused on infrastructure, data, privacy, or security.
• Experience with distributed processing, lakehouse table formats, or query engines.
• Understanding of data pipelines, LLM training, provenance, or lineage.
• Experience with secure enclaves, confidential computing, clean rooms, eDiscovery, litigation support, or records retention at scale.
