Senior Platform Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Boston, MA or San Francisco, CA, United States

Salary: $170K–$200K annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Operate, scale, and improve Kafka clusters, including deployment, topic governance, replication, and reliability objectives.
• Administer and optimize Amazon EKS environments, including cluster scaling, node groups, namespaces, and container resilience.
• Build monitoring, logging, and alerting for Kafka and Kubernetes with Sumo Logic.
• Partner with software engineers to design reliable applications that use Kubernetes and Kafka effectively.
• Manage cloud infrastructure as code with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
• Build and maintain automated CI/CD and infrastructure deployment workflows with GitHub Actions.

Requirements

• Production experience with Kafka architecture, broker configuration, topic management, replication, and troubleshooting in high-throughput environments.
• Experience running containerized production workloads with Kubernetes, including EKS, GKE, AKS, or self-hosted Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts such as compute, networking, and IAM.
• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Ability to write automation and tooling in Python, Go, Node, and Bash.
• Experience with GitOps workflows, GitHub Actions, and on-call operations.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, or ksqlDB.
• Experience writing custom or composite GitHub Actions.
• Experience operating stateful workloads and data infrastructure on Kubernetes.
• Experience improving developer experience and CI/CD workflow efficiency.
