Clinical Lab Assistant-Central Specimen Receiving, Full-time Night Shift (Healthcare)

Location: 251 E. Huron, Chicago, Illinois, United States. Full-time onsite role on the overnight shift, currently scheduled for 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m., with weekend and holiday rotation.

Salary: $19.81–$26.74 per hour

What you will do

• Receive, register, verify, and distribute laboratory specimens to the appropriate testing areas.
• Enter and retrieve specimen information and laboratory results in laboratory and hospital computer systems, including Epic.
• Perform waived testing under the direction of clinical laboratory staff and verify appropriate specimen types, containers, and volumes.
• Communicate specimen rejections, critical or notifiable results, and other issues to appropriate clinical personnel.
• Monitor laboratory records, refrigerator temperatures, quality-control documentation, and outstanding time-sensitive orders.
• Answer laboratory calls, coordinate courier pickups, pull anatomic pathology slides, and perform phlebotomy or other specimen collections as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma required.
• Ability to work a full-time, 40-hour overnight schedule with weekend and holiday rotation.
• Preferred: one year of experience in a general laboratory, specimen processing, or phlebotomy department.
• Ability to collaborate with laboratory staff, nurses, providers, and other departments while following laboratory procedures and regulatory standards.
