TL;DR
Environmental Advisor (Infrastructure and Sustainability): Coordinating environmental assessments, permits, waste records, site inspections, and planning-condition compliance for infrastructure projects in the Scottish Highlands with an accent on environmental regulation, ecological constraints, and sustainability targets. Focus on managing environmental risks across multiple projects, conducting audits, and supporting project teams through complex consenting and construction requirements.

Location: Bathgate, with travel to project sites in the Scottish Highlands. Occasional overnight stays may be required for remote projects.

What you will do

  • Coordinate pre-construction environmental assessments, including ecology and archaeology surveys.
  • Advise project teams on work programming and environmental constraints.
  • Manage waste records and support client decarbonisation reporting.
  • Coordinate environmental permits and waste management licences.
  • Support the discharge of Section 37 planning conditions on rebuild overhead-line projects.
  • Inspect active work zones, audit environmental documentation, and support sustainability targets.

Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, or a related field; a postgraduate qualification is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in an environmental-focused role, preferably in infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of UK-wide environmental regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Experience conducting environmental assessments and developing management plans for planning-consent conditions.
  • Valid driving licence, willingness to travel to project sites, membership of ISEP or a similar professional body, and an applicable CSCS Card.
  • Strong communication, independent-working, teamwork, and Microsoft Office skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the electrical utilities industry.
  • Ability to produce maps using QGIS.
