Materials Engineering Intern (Fusion Energy)

Location: Everett, Washington, United States; full-time onsite for at least 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027

What you will do

• Assist with research and development of polymers, metals, ceramics, and composites for current and next-generation fusion systems.
• Conduct experiments to evaluate material properties and performance under different conditions.
• Prepare samples, operate laboratory instruments, acquire data, and support material characterization.
• Analyze experimental results to identify trends and optimize material properties.
• Document research findings through technical reports and presentations.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings and present results during weekly meetings and the year-end intern showcase.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a graduate Master's or PhD program in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Available to work full time onsite in Everett, Washington, for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Fundamental knowledge of material properties, thermodynamics including phase diagrams, and mechanics.
• Experience with laboratory techniques and material characterization tools, with willingness to learn.
• Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or Origin.
