Patient Access Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite at 4201 Medical Center Dr., McHenry, Illinois, United States; part-time night shift.

Salary: $18.40–$27.60 per hour

What you will do

• Provide patient access and customer service support while responding to questions, concerns, and escalations.
• Collect and verify patient demographic information, maintain confidentiality under HIPAA, and protect patients from financial or safety risks.
• Schedule appointments, coordinate referrals and consultations, and direct patients through hospital systems.
• Perform medical necessity checks, insurance eligibility and benefit verification, authorization collection, and out-of-pocket estimates.
• Use Epic and other online systems to retrieve orders, document handoffs, send patient messages, and maintain accurate records.
• Participate in quality assurance, process improvement, cross-training, and service recovery activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of customer service or medical office experience.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic computer skills, accurate data entry, and typing speed of 40 words per minute.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, analytical, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work four overnight shifts every two weeks, totaling 32 hours per pay period.

Nice to have

• Additional education or language skills.
• Healthcare finance or healthcare insurance experience.
• Healthcare experience with patient scheduling or registration.
