Senior Backend Engineer (Python)

Location: Westminster, Colorado, United States. U.S. citizenship is required, along with an active or obtainable U.S. Government security clearance.

Salary: $128,000–$170,000–$187,000 annually for positions based in Colorado. Final pay depends on experience, qualifications, skills, location, and market conditions.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the catalog API from design through production.
• Build and operate data pipelines that keep the catalog current.
• Tune API and PostgreSQL performance across large datasets and high traffic.
• Deploy secure, reliable services with automated tests and frequent releases.
• Shape architecture and technical direction with a small, high-autonomy team.

Requirements

• 6+ years of backend development experience building secure, scalable production services.
• Strong Python and API design experience with FastAPI, Flask, or a similar framework.
• Deep experience building and operating data pipelines over large datasets.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills, including performance tuning at scale.
• Experience operating cloud services such as AWS or GCP and using infrastructure as code such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial catalogs or large-scale archives.
• Familiarity with STAC, OGC APIs, PostGIS, and GDAL.
• Kubernetes or similar container orchestration experience.
• Experience with zero-downtime deployments and service modernization.
