Technical Writer (V-BAT)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain service bulletins covering inspections, corrective actions, modifications, operational limitations, maintenance actions, parts replacements, and configuration changes.
• Create clear, sequential procedures for inspection, removal, installation, modification, troubleshooting, functional testing, and return-to-service activities.
• Observe and document maintenance, assembly, ground-test, and flight-test activities to ensure procedures reflect actual work execution.
• Interpret drawings, bills of material, schematics, engineering changes, software release notes, test reports, and configuration records.
• Coordinate technical reviews and resolve incomplete, conflicting, ambiguous, or unsafe content with engineering, quality, manufacturing, flight-test, operations, and support stakeholders.
• Maintain templates, style guides, revision histories, distribution records, approval records, and traceability between publications and approved configurations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent relevant experience in aircraft maintenance, UAS operations, avionics, flight test, aerospace field service, engineering technology, or technical publications.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in maintenance documentation, service engineering, or technical writing for aerospace, defense, aviation, UAS, or complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience creating, revising, or technically validating maintenance procedures, troubleshooting instructions, operator procedures, service bulletins, work instructions, or test procedures.
• Practical knowledge of aircraft or UAS mechanical, electrical, avionics, propulsion, payload, ground-support, or mission-system interfaces.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, CAD outputs, schematics, system architectures, requirements, interface-control documents, test data, and engineering changes.
• Experience working in configuration-managed environments with controlled revisions, technical reviews, and formal approvals.

Nice to have

• FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate, military aviation maintenance specialty, or equivalent aircraft maintenance experience.
• Experience with fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, UAS, autonomous platforms, flight testing, field sustainment, or deployed operations.
• Familiarity with ATA iSpec 2200, S1000D, MIL-STD-40051, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-STD-1808, or comparable technical-publication frameworks.
• Experience with PLM, document-control, configuration-management, requirements-management, or engineering-release systems.
• Experience using FrameMaker, Arbortext, XML/DITA, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Visio, or comparable technical-authoring and illustration tools.
