TL;DR
Environmental Specialist / Engineer (Refining): Developing and implementing environmental policies, compliance programs, permits, and environmental equipment systems for a renewable refining facility with an accent on regulatory compliance, process-industry experience, and field safety. Focus on investigating environmental issues, designing environmental systems, assessing regulatory changes, and training employees while supporting government and regulatory relations.

Location: Onsite in Martinez, California, United States; 9/80 schedule, monthly on-call support, and core business hours from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Travel requirement is 5% or less. Relocation may be available.

Salary: $93,000–$160,300 per year.

What you will do

  • Interpret and develop environmental policies, guidelines, procedures, and compliance programs.
  • Design or review environmental equipment and systems, including engineering specifications and cost estimates.
  • Investigate environmental problems, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor environmental legislation, regulatory agency actions, and industry standards; prepare impact assessments, reports, and permits.
  • Develop environmental manuals, training materials, and employee training programs.
  • Represent the company with trade associations, industry groups, regulatory agencies, and government affairs stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with 5 years of professional environmental experience in refining, midstream, petrochemical, or other heavy industry; or a bachelor's degree in engineering or environmental studies with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in a refinery, wear required PPE including a respirator, perform field tasks, complete a hair drug test, and pass a physical examination.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
  • Must work onsite on a 9/80 schedule and provide monthly on-call support.

Nice to have

  • Chemical Engineering degree.
  • Experience with PI.
