Applied Science Intern (Summer 2027) (Aerospace)

Location: Full-time on-site in Woodbridge, Virginia / Northern Virginia and DC. The internship runs between May and September 2027 depending on university schedules. The position requires access to export-controlled information; applicants must meet applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements.

Salary: $40/hour for Bachelor's students, $45/hour for Master's students, and $50/hour for PhD students.

What you will do

• Conduct first-principles scientific and technical analyses for remote sensing data applications and use cases.
• Analyze remote sensing and geospatial datasets to identify applications and validate mission concepts.
• Develop models, simulations, and trade studies for mission feasibility assessments and architecture decisions.
• Support customer discovery by preparing technical materials and participating in stakeholder discussions.
• Collaborate with a small, agile team to investigate new applications of hirify.global systems and capabilities.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Earth Science, Physics, Remote Sensing, Computer Science, or a related technical or scientific field.
• Strong foundation in scientific and engineering first principles and problem solving.
• Proficiency in a programming or scripting language for data and image analysis and modeling, such as Python, MATLAB, or Julia.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative small-team environment.
• Must satisfy applicable U.S. export-control access requirements, including U.S.-person status or eligibility for the required export authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience with remote sensing data, Earth observation, geospatial analysis, satellite imagery, climate data, GIS tools, or GEOINT principles.
• Experience with image processing fundamentals and tools.
• Coursework or experience in Earth science, atmospheric science, or environmental monitoring.
• Experience engaging with customers, stakeholders, or technical cross-functional collaborators.
