Lead Software Engineer (AI)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; office-based 5 days per week

Base salary: $150,000–$300,000 USD per year, plus a possible discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Lead feature development and architectural decisions using spec-driven workflows.
• Build end-to-end features across Liquibase/JPA schemas, Spring/Java services, SAIL system rules, and React/TypeScript components.
• Improve availability, latency, scalability, efficiency, and reliability for high-volume production systems.
• Analyze and tune the analytics engine and data layers for peak performance.
• Build LLM copilot pipelines, prompt workflows, chart widgets, dashboard builders, and other data visualization experiences.
• Conduct design and code reviews, mentor engineers, influence team culture, and communicate complex technical designs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 7+ years of experience, or a master’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience supporting high-volume, business-critical production services.
• Experience building interactive web user interfaces with TypeScript and React or similar component frameworks.
• Strong Java fundamentals, including Spring Framework, Hibernate/JPA, interface-first architecture, and dependency injection.
• Experience with modern AI coding tools and agentic development workflows.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, cross-team collaboration, ownership of complex deliverables, and mentoring of less experienced engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience building or integrating LLM pipelines, prompt workflows, and AI copilot services.
• Experience with custom agent harnesses, context configuration files, custom linters, or spec-driven execution workflows.
• Experience with Highcharts, D3, Chart.js, Redux, process mining, analytics, or business intelligence platforms.
