Survey Technician II (Utility Inspection)

Location: The Woodlands, TX; New Orleans, LA; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Nashville, TN. This is an onsite field role with frequent travel and overnight stays across project locations.

Salary: $20–$31 per hour. Final compensation depends on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.

What you will do

• Perform ground-based pole inspections and document framing, attachments, hardware, conductors, and related utility assets.
• Conduct conductor observations, hammer sounding, sound testing, and required field photography.
• Operate handheld and ground-based LiDAR equipment as directed.
• Review, organize, label, upload, and transfer field data while resolving minor gaps and inconsistencies.
• Support UAS crews with equipment handling, battery management, visual observation, and daily field logistics.
• Follow safety procedures around utility infrastructure, roadways, traffic, and the public while traveling frequently to project sites.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1.5 years of field survey, utility inspection, or directly related field experience.
• Familiarity with transmission and distribution infrastructure, utility poles, and associated equipment.
• Proficiency with tablets, laptops, field data collection applications, cameras, and basic Microsoft Office tools.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to travel frequently with overnight stays.
• Ability to work outdoors on uneven terrain, around active roadways and utility infrastructure, and in varying weather conditions.

Nice to have

• Additional technical training or coursework in a related field.
• Experience operating handheld or ground-based LiDAR equipment.
• Familiarity with hammer sounding procedures and conductor observation techniques.
