Mechanical Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)

Location: Munising, Michigan, United States; onsite at the Munising Mill

What you will do

• Complete a 10+ week internship beginning in May 2027, supporting engineering and operational needs at a paper production facility.
• Work with Engineering and Operations on process efficiency, cost savings, and technology advancement projects.
• Determine functional requirements for equipment, processes, tasks, and safety exposures.
• Develop conceptual solutions, work plans following the PDCA cycle, and clear project updates.
• Convert mechanical drawings into electronic CAD files and create component, assembly, piping and instrumentation, schematic, and flow-chart documentation.
• Prepare bills of materials, project cost estimates, quotes, and labor-hour estimates.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering degree program.
• At least one completed year of coursework; two completed years preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred in the academic field of study.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Ability to analyze information, communicate findings, synthesize concepts, and collaborate effectively.
