Forward Deployed AI Architect (AI)

Location: US Remote; conditions list Chicago, Illinois, United States. Travel up to 15% is required for on-site work with teams and field or chapter operations.

Salary: $155,000–$168,000 annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus of up to 6%.

What you will do

• Embed with teams to observe processes in granular detail, identify bottlenecks and errors, and lead collaborative redesign.
• Build and ship AI agents, automations, skills, and tools primarily using Claude and approved enterprise AI platforms.
• Run time-boxed engagements, define measurable value targets, validate outcomes, and document solutions for handoff.
• Troubleshoot solutions during delivery and a 30-day stabilization period, then coordinate ongoing support with IT.
• Create reusable agents, skills, templates, and patterns for teams across the Association.
• Partner with AI Platform Operations, IT, Enterprise Risk, and the AI Collective on access, security, data handling, and responsible deployment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
• 3–5 years of experience understanding and changing operational processes through consulting, operations, product, program delivery, or AI transformation work.
• Hands-on experience building AI agents, automations, or tools adopted in day-to-day work.
• Working fluency with Claude or a comparable enterprise AI platform, including agentic and multi-step workflows.
• Ability to work with APIs, connectors, and structured data, and to distinguish prototypes from production systems.
• Strong communication skills with non-technical staff, including the ability to teach users and work through skepticism about AI.

Nice to have

• Experience with Claude Code, Claude Cowork, MCP servers, or comparable agent development frameworks.
• Experience delivering AI or automation work in a large, matrixed organization.
• Background in scientific research, public policy, healthcare, fundraising, field operations, or volunteer operations.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Workday, or CXone.
• Nonprofit experience and experience documenting and scaling solutions.
