Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California, or New York, New York

Salary: $175,000–$240,000 per year in estimated total on-target earnings for roles based in San Francisco or New York City, including base salary and on-target incentive pay.

What you will do

• Lead technical discovery, requirements gathering, solution design, and end-to-end implementation for complex enterprise customer engagements.
• Design, build, and operate custom agents, integrations, automations, and data pipelines connecting Notion with customer systems and workflows.
• Deploy AI agents and workflows using MCP, Agent APIs, LLM applications, prompt engineering, retrieval/RAG systems, and workflow orchestration.
• Lead large-scale content and data migrations, including data modeling, transformation, validation, and post-migration optimization.
• Work with customer engineering, IT, security, and business stakeholders to resolve implementation challenges involving APIs, permissions, authentication, data quality, and system limits.
• Build reusable migration tools, integration patterns, discovery frameworks, technical standards, and internal delivery tooling while feeding implementation insights back to Product, CX, and Engineering.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in customer-facing engineering, forward deployed engineering, professional services, or a similar hands-on technical role.
• Production-quality programming experience in at least one of Java, JavaScript, Node, SQL, or Python.
• Hands-on experience with APIs and data integration.
• Ability to lead technical discovery, assess feasibility and risks, scope work, estimate effort, and turn ambiguous requirements into executable plans.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills for technical and business audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to translate technical challenges into scalable customer outcomes.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying autonomous AI agents in complex coding or business workflows.
• Experience with ETL/ELT workflows, data transformation, schema mapping, validation scripts, or large-scale migration tooling.
• Experience building technical frameworks, discovery methodologies, or internal tooling from the ground up.
• Experience supporting pre-sales or early engagement phases, including migration scoping, feasibility analysis, effort estimation, and prototyping.
• Experience with successful enterprise customer implementations and influencing product roadmaps or architectural decisions.
